1. Part of the freak El Nino event that caused serious flooding

a few weeks ago? There was also a big bloom with the big El Nino event of a year or so ago. That also caused a bloom in Death Valley and in southeast California earlier this year.

One thing that surprised me the most on my first trip to NM was how many wildflowers there were in the desert.
