Palacios, who you'll recall was Macri's Police Chief during his first term as Buenos Aires mayor, was caught running warrantless wiretapping operations in 2009 on numerous Macri opponents (even an in-law with whom Macri had personal issues) - as well as advocates for the survivors and loved ones of the 1994 AMIA bombing.
Macri appointed Palacios police chief despite his earlier indictment as an accessory to then-President Menem's cover-up of the 1994 bombing - which was found by the original forensic team to have come from inside the building.
Macri admitted at the time that the Israeli Embassy had specifically recommended Palacios as police chief. Bibi remains highly supportive of Macri to this day (despite the numerous known anti-Semites in his government), and last year even sold Pegasus phone-hacking technology to the increasingly autocratic Macri.
And he's certainly put it to full use already: against critical journalists (leaking intimate videos) and, it's suspected, Chief Justice Lorenzetti, who unexpectedly resigned yesterday (Lorenzetti was rumored to be having an affair, and hacked phone photos/video may have "persuaded" him to resign).
