US 'Black Hawk' Helicopter Crashes in Honduras [View all]

A Black Hawk helicopter utilized by the U.S. Army has crashed in Honduras while trying to make a precautionary emergency landing on March 5, according to the news outlet Interesting Engineering (IE).

Newsweek reached out to the U.S. Army for comment via email outside of business hours.

Why It Matters

The Black Hawk helicopter crash in Honduras comes soon after another helicopter of the same model crashed into a plane over the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. and killed 67 people in January.
This helicopter crash is one of more than 13 fatal aviation incidents in 2025, and the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating many of these accidents to determine the causes.

What To Know

The U.S. Army said that "pilots flying a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter made a precautionary emergency landing approximately five miles east of Soto Cano Air Base at 9:34 a.m. today."

"All five crew members were evaluated by medical personnel, and no significant injuries have been reported. The aircrew was performing routine training in the area. An investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the incident," the army said.

Following the incident, medical responders, firefighters, and Air Force personnel went to provide assistance. While no personnel suffered major injuries, an unidentified U.S. Army official told the outlet that the helicopter sustained "significant damage" during the landing.
