Hydrogen is very poor bang for the buck. Yes, it can be used as a storage medium, but it is a pretty poor one. It realistically takes about 51kWHs of electricity to create, store and dispense a single kg of hydrogen (and this number is disputed). That kg of hydrogen is re-converted to electricity and can power a Hyundai Tucson for about 47 miles. However, if I use that 51kWh to charge my Nissan Leaf, I can drive about a 180 miles.

Absent some MAJOR tech breakthrough in making hydrogen, it is not an economical fuel.
