I read Neal Barnard's book about reversing diabetes and got started on a plant based diet. I felt stronger and healthier right away and dropped some pounds. Blood sugars are down and I can eat without counting every carb now (I am not and was never on medication for diabetes). What worked for me is cutting way down on the saturated fat in my diet; it clears out your cells, apparently.

Still need to improve things: fewer refined carbs for example. I am on more of an Ornish diet these days--occasionally eat fish (once a month maybe) and some egg whites in mayonnaise, for example, but mostly vegan most of the time.

I started at age 59: never too late to improve things.
