Anybody else going to catch A Fierce Green Fire on PBS tonight?

8. I wanted more time on each story. All together they didn't really create a cohesive narrative,

and the end segment about global warming seemed tacked on and lacked the drama of the rest, even though it's a dramatic story. The dramatic story of our times. It made me think about that old Stalin line about one death being a tragedy and a million being a statistic. Talking about looking in the eyes of two dying whales was heartbreaking. Talking about a dying biosphere? It's harder to tell that story, and I don't think they managed it because they didn't make it visual and compelling, so it didn't make good film. That's probably why it's so hard to inspire the general public on the matter.

I loved the history of it though: most of those stories were from before my time.
