I forgot to mention a couple of other things.

Like I said, I'm not a garden guru, but my grandmother (83 years of awesome) is. She still raises a HUGE garden every year. She generally has the great-grandkids bring her a few truckloads of horse manure from my dad's place for the garden in the late fall. Also, she adds a little lime to the garden, also in the late fall, every several years for some reason.
