2. Howdy! No - if the binding string gets cut, the bale essentially explodes into a pile of hay.

Once the bales are prepped, I use a balanced fertilizer weekly - they need lots of watering (it is all above the ground and they get baked pretty good by the sun), so there is significant leeching of nutrition out of the bales that need regular replacement.
