we support a rescue group that takes in animals no one else wants because they are old, the wrong breed, have disabilities or special needs. We adopted 2 and are working on becoming foster parents. I don't need to guess what my money is used on, I follow them on FB and see exactly where it goes. We donated a few weeks ago and I am certain part of that money went to a dog that needed $750 surgery this weekend. He was left behind when his owners moved, they locked him in the house and he had to chew his way out to survive.
