I lived in the D.C. for a few decades and can attest to the attitude and snobbishness of the Chevy Chase citizens. Hell, when they were building that Beltway, the planners had to take a detour to avoid the area and rerouted an entire 4 lane(at that time) highway thru a poorer neighborhood.
