Maybe they don't. Maybe their world is ruled by the strongest leaving women, the elderly and the infirm at the mercy of those who have no mercy.

You're implying that people only want guns, not because they are the most practical means for defense but because firearms owners are somehow deficient without any consideration for pragmatism and experience.

Why do you assume the worst of the people?

I've known hundreds of people in my many years on this earth and none of them have ever been beaten or shot by bullies, thugs, or criminals. No one I know owns or carries a firearm, which means none of us has to keep track of our weapon when we're out, when we fly, or when we're around kids. No one steals our gun. No one will be shot by accident in my home.

I live in a rural area. Everyone owns a gun. Generally several, i.e. pistols of assorted calibers (heavier and lighter for the gentlemen and ladies respectively), at least 1 rifle (semi or otherwise) and a shotgun. Most are kept in the open. Many carry on their hip. We have no crime. We have no "wild west" shoot-outs. We have had a mountain lion in the area in years past but I believe it is unarmed and has no outstanding warrants.
