1. What kind of dogs do you have?

And what sort of support does your existing fence have? Unless you used very long t-posts or something I'm having trouble visualizing how you could add 2 feet of fencing to the top of a 4 foot fence and have it be very stable.

I asked what kind of dogs because if you are trying to keep them fenced into 40 acres I think that would be very hard. I have LGDs Anatolian/Pyrs and they mostly stay in but if they want out to chase a predator, they find a way... usually by digging under at night. I pound stakes in the holes they make if they are near the road but its pretty much an effort in futility. They can also go over unbelievable heights. I have a male who I put in a pen in the barn with 6' chain link and the loft is only 8'... he scaled it and came out through the 2' gap at the top after I had buried cattle panels in the dirt so he could no longer dig under.

Some breeds might be easier to contain I suppose...
