(13,615 posts)To the Bernie supporters who got nasty towards minorities, shame on you! Bernie himself would read you the riot act, and give you the sort of loud, truth-packed jeremiad normally reserved for the GOP, and you know it.
To the Hillary supporters that fed that "bernie iz a racist" meme, when you know damned well he lad a long record that went back to Jesse Jackson of fighting prejudice (Back in the days when Bill and Hillary Clinton still played on gold courses that banned black people), shame on you. Jesse Jackson would read you the riot act, and you know it.
If I did not know that, for all it's faults and failures, this country had to be saved, I would be sorely tempted to think Democracy itself was a failed idea. Thankfully, I can read the Ayn Rands, Ahudrunti Roys, the John Michael Greers, and see that while it might briefly tempting to embrace brutal societies of Maoist apparatchiks or Philosopher Kings, they all end up sour and toxic.
Still, the outright way we have failed democracy already in this election is an example that will hopefully be held up to our grandchildren as an example of how ugly, foolish, and stupid their grandparents were, the political equivalent of the stars and bars! When the Chinese and the Russians and even Isis thins democracy is a bad idea, stuff like this can be used.
And to 2strongblackman, Bravenak, and the other AAs I have had the honor and privilege to read here, stay strong. The enemy cannot win by strength, because real strength comes from the Truth, and they know the truth is just NOT on their side. They can only attempt to exhaust us with nonsense, or drown us in excrement, but they forget by the very virtue of the lives minorities have to live, we are already used to conquering both of those attacks.
and since the privileged nitpickers will be out inn force, making themselves at home to insult AAs here, slumming around to cause trouble, I will say this. No the Puerto Rican behind this screen is not AA, though chances of my not having some AA in me are slim. However, I have seen a lot of the duplicity and nonsense the privileged majority does. I see how they deny privilege, even here, when they can do things that get people hidden and tombstoned, only to be carried by sedan chair to the greatest page. The folks who get pilloried in the AA group are very often the best, more informative posters who can actually fulfill the DU promise of letting people learn from people who do not get a voice. The same is true for many in the other non majority groups, such as the feminists. There is a silver lining though: because when the people still trying to count on privileges fall, they fall hard, and they stay down long enough for the rest of us to actually get some improvements done. You think the Scotus decisions this week were something, just you wait till the minorities actually do gain number, and pool resources and power. No, we do not intend to fulfill Trump's fantasies, instead, we will actually ive meaning, truth, and substance to the American dream.
WE ARE AMERICA.
