(31,630 posts)There's a post by sheshe here in the op (made last night should be easy to find) where a quote in context was made.
I don't dismiss Maine as a state worth campaigning in - I've just VERY clearly - VERY CLEARLY pointed out that if he has moment or two -he might want to make headway in some of the states that we know are going to go for Hillary - without a fight from O'Malley or Sanders supporters. And those states - have black people living in them in the top 1% - down to the last, the least, and the lost.
I seriously don't know if the Democratic Party intends to do the 50 state strategy - if Senator Sanders is as part of his primary campaign - kudos to him. As a Democratic Party member - I think this election is about realizing you can't win Mississippi - but you better go genitalia to the walls in Michigan, Ohio, PA, NJ, VA, MD, etc. etc.
And in regards to Sanders addressing race - He's not really an option for me at all. It has LESS to do with race and much more to do with him having three bullet points for American success.
I want to see a 10 page document on his financial/economy approach.
And I need to see him put Green Infrastructure Development/Renewal (requires skilled blue collar labor, can be isolationist in it's approach to hiring i.e. no visas necessary, and if done as a New Deal type of program - could be highly paid positions) plan out there.
Now here's the thing - that's NOT what appeals to his voters. It's bankers, financial equality, labor (as it exists today). He's GOT to go with that. And that's what is working for him.
It won't work for me. September 2017 middle class kids who received excellent public educations are college ready. They will go - debt free *cross fingers* for 4-6 years. But September/October 2017 - I'd like to see a lot of kids making $15 to $20 an hour soldering (because we've trained them on OUR dime - not theirs) to weld solar shingles at Elon Musk's factory up in Buffalo.
I know - radical idea - but it's one O'Malley is in front of Sanders and Clinton on. So there's no need to give me a song and dance about Clinton and Sanders when they got to the stage too late to give me a high kick.
ETA - here's the clip - it's really good - go over to NPR

This subtitle comes from NPR - not mine: On African-American support for Democrats
But that's not important. You should not be basing your politics based on your color. What you should be basing your politics on is, how is your family doing? ... In the last election, in state after state, you had an abysmally low vote for the Democrats among white, working-class people. And I think the reason for that is that the Democrats have not made it clear that they are prepared to stand with the working-class people of this country, take on the big money interests. I think the key issue that we have to focus on, and I know people are uncomfortable about talking about it, is the role of the billionaire class in American society.
Who is speaking to there? White people? Who are disenchanted with the outreach made by the Democratic Party to the minority community? Black people - believe it or not - we don't all live in the ghetto. . . if he's talking to us -he just told me to go vote for Rand Paul - because that's where my family's financial interests lay.
