It was about race whether she was actually African American.
The cases are seemingly similar at first glance but they are so different different by 180 degrees.
Dolezal is white. I posted here at the time that even if she was white she was doing positive things in the African American community (unpaid position) and that we should back off of her. After all, being black is a good thing. Of course that never happened, she was hung out to dry.
Shaun King's case is the exact opposite. He IS African American (biracial if you will, as is our president who also identifies as black. If you know anything about the history of this country, if you have black blood in you you are considered African American. In both these men's cases they embraced that designation. As I wrote earlier, being black is a good thing, especially in this country as the legacy of warmongering and racism doesn't hang over the black community).
Like I said, the cases are similar until you scratch the surface and find they are not.
And how you introduce sexism as being at the core of it I don't get at all.
