(51,523 posts)And as you note, reparations does not necessarily mean a check, so the level of "hard" depends on how the goverment implements reparations. But regardless, "hard" was not supposed to be an issue for the Bernie Revolution...except when it came to the issue of reparations. It is not just a matter of hypocrisy but a matter of why Bernie has chosen the priorities he has. The fact that Bernie is "No We Can't" on reparations but "Yes We Can" on all of the desires, however unattainable, of the white left is, as Coates observes, "illuminating."
As you note with regard to single payer, Bernie's support of it generates "debate on the national stage." That is all he can offer for any of his pie in the sky ideas, and yet he won't even have that discussion about reparations. Suddenly he's a pragmatist. Illuminating indeed.
