she wasn't endorsing either one of them. She made the expected criticisms of Hillary, from Angela's point of view as a "radical activist."
But the reason she won't endorse Bernie is because of his blind spot on racial issues. She thinks he thinks everything can be reduced to economic inequality and she disagrees.
With regard to your point, I'm not sure it's worse now -- but we, as a country, have been turning a blind eye to it and now we can't. Obama's Presidency has forced us to confront it.
