I saw a car pull into the bottom of my driveway; a woman got out, did something, got back in, and left. It turned out she had "dropped off" a kitten.
As fate would have it, this kitten was a welcome entity. I've never encountered a kitten/cat with such a wild imagination. Plus it gets along fine with the other cats and dogs.
Recently, I was watching three deer feast upon the corn & sunflower seeds out on my lawn. Then, I noted they were on alert. It took a few seconds before I saw the kitten approaching them, slowly, in a low crouch. Although the deer could see it was but a small ball of fur, two took off when the kitten sped up, as if it was about to capture one for a meal. The third one trotted towards the kitten, who turned sideways, arched her back, and took off in another direction at an incredible rate of speed.
I was laughing out loud, when my older son asked what was so funny? I told him, and said I was surprised the two were spooked by such a small cat. He reminded me the cat is a predator, with the same smell -- and making the same sounds -- as a bobcat, etc. And that site was but one sense, along with smell and hearing, that allow deer to survive.
