As to the Jordan/Tebow thing, the truth is neither get the shot if they don't have that name recognition. But, at least in the case of Jordan, Reinsdorf owed Jordan big. The value of the franchise octupled due to MJ's presence. And, he spent over half his Bulls career not even among the top 10 best payed players. (I know they made it up at the end with that 2 year windfall contract.)
With the money MJ made Jerry, the organization had no problem sending MJ to Birmingham.
