12. Haven't had much time for gaming in recent years

I did play the original D&D back in the '70s once or twice, but mainly played SPI/Avalon Hill wargames until I went to college. Afterward I picked up the wargames again, mainly World in Flames, Air Superiority and similar air combat games, but have pretty much stopped those (and am slowly selling off my collection). I also started D&D with version 3.5 as a way to do things with the family (my wife and sons were playing tons World of Warcraft back then); this past weekend we played some 5th Edition.

I get a lot of flak from my family over my D&D characters, because I tend to prefer simple-minded, combat-oriented characters (e.g. my current half-orc barbarian). They want me to be a spellcaster, but I am not really interested in figure out the ins and outs of magic. Also, isn't the point of role-playing games that you get to be someone different? I think too much in real life, so I prefer to play someone who doesn't think much at all.
