my friends (old friends, literally and literally) were just talking the other day about the fact that when we were growing up it was not "fashionable" to even mention your religion. To ask, for example, one of the first questions one encounters today, "What church do you go to?" would have been considered crass and intrusive. Even Emily Post (does anyone remember her?) made a point of saying that religion was a private matter and not appropriate for most social contexts. Things have really changed.
