Old man, look at yourself [View all]

In 1997 I was working as a nurse in a hospice in San Diego.

One patient was a man in his late 80's, a couple weeks away from dying of cancer.
His wife visited each day, but I never saw them interact other than a few short conversations.
She’d come in around 9 A.M. and stay to about 5 P.M.; sitting next to his bed, quietly reading a book.

The man, while alert, typically lay flat in his bed, his eyes closed, with what I viewed as him thinking “Just leave me alone and let me die. Don’t talk to me; don’t bother me. Just get out and let me die”.

I was in and out of the room throughout the day and spoke to both of them, trying to be friendly and supportive.
The man would briefly look at me but did not speak to me.
(I knew he could speak. I heard him briefly speak with his wife and doctor)

One day I was walking down the hallway when I heard my name, someone calling out to me.
I looked around and I saw this man sitting upright in his bed, calling me, and motioning for me to come to him.

I could see he had a smile on his face; looked happy and excited.
(His wife continued to quietly read her book)

He told me that during the previous night he awoke and found himself ‘floating’ near the ceiling of his room,
looking down at his body lying in bed. He said he then ‘floated’ back to his body.

A couple days later he told me he'd had another experience, where he awoke to find himself standing by the doorway to his room,
looking at his body lying in bed.

His experiences completely changed this man. He was now friendly, out going, talkative.
He even said he knew he was dying, and was curious what might be on the other side.

He died several days after his second 'out of body' experience.

I once read that these ‘out of body’ experiences among the dying is your soul/spirit making practice runs at leaving the deceased. When you die, your soul/spirit departs permanently for the afterlife.

Now, forgive me if this seems rude, but I don’t care if what I write here is believed or not.
I’m just telling about events this man told me happened to him.
