Elections have severe consequences if the wrong people are voted in. Farmers have always been dependent on big government, but usually vote against it. A free market in agriculture would be the most disastrous thing to happen in ages. As a former South Dakotan, and involved in agriculture, I noticed that most farmers didn't care about anything past their fences unless it effected their income.
