when he wanted to veer off a bit to the dark side. He and Kamala Harris, the candidate running for Senator Boxer's seat now, have clashed a couple of times. She turned out to be more progressive than him.

However, Governor Brown listens to his legislature and is open to compromise. He doesn't march off angrily when he doesn't get his way. He listens, debates, and comes to a compromise that will help the State. That's what a president should do as well - be willing to work with the U.S. Congress (to a point) to get things done for the country, rather than staunchly stick to "his principles".
