(81,220 posts)The Koch brothers are just the tip of the iceberg.
A counter-revolution, engineered in slow motion, occurred outside the temporal frame that's been presented by the corporate media. On TV, it's always "Now!" It infantilizes the masses. History is what happens outside the margins of the screen and past the printed newspage. Every issue on the table today has been there since 1970. Been there. Got the t-shirt. Their agenda: to repeal all Roosevelt-era legislation.
This, I think, is key. This is the whole ballgame. And the more we hone in on this, the more focused and effective we'll be in fighting this movement that's gained so much momentum and clout in the last 30 years. Having been around long enough to see a lot of that '60s and '70s progress and social innovation (and being a VERY minor participant in one little backwash of it), I view what's happened in this country as manifesting the view that OSPREYXIV articulated above. That side of the aisle has been on a severely focused and well-thought-out long-term campaign to change the social structure and mindset of America. Look at how they want to roll back voting rights, women's rights, and Wall Street regulations. Back to the 1950s in some ways. Back to the 1929s in others. Back farther still in a few more. For those who fought for those reforms and who now see that fight coming closer than ever before to being completely up-ended, I'm glad to see someone else put this in writing. They DO want to get rid of the New Deal, that we in the '60s and '70s tried to expand upon. It's all part of their Satan's Thesis of "you're on your own," and "IGMFU" (I Got Mine, F-U) that is just abhorrent to me. I've heard them say this. Again and again! And it has to be fought. Again and again!
Sorry - I just get a little emotional about this stuff. Take it too personally. But thereya go.
