7. Actually, there is no set procedure for how a replacement is picked after the convention

It is up to the parties, and as far as I can tell the DNC doesn't really have a procedure laid out for replacing a nominee after he/she has been formally nominated. This wasn't an issue in 1968 because RFK was shot after locking up the nomination (there were no supers back then) but before actually being nominated.
