5. I don't get it.

As I recall, William Weld was appointed by President (Bill) Clinton to be ambassador to Mexico. That appointment was torpedoed by conservative Republicans in the Senate.

So why would he want to oppose the Clintons, and in any way help conservative Republicans?

Unless he planned this all from the start: become Libertarian VP, wait until mid or late October, hold a press conference endorsing Hillary.

In which case I'd say the former Massachusetts governor is one steely-eyed missile man for sure.
