(95,337 posts)He's one of the best in a debate ever having 30+ years of mastering it in senate. He's also a master salesperson. After Romney offended everyone at the NAACP convention, Obama sent Biden as his representative because he knew that Biden was the best not only for pushing the Obama/Biden agenda but he could tear Romney a new one in a way that is Biden's signature style.
Some say that Biden was weak against his debate against Sarah Palin. Biden knew he was going up against a much weaker opponent but if he was too tough on her then he'd have to deal with the press hounding him as a bully. He still came out as the winner since it was clear that Sarah was just repeating what she memorized even if it was not on topic with the question, I booked my inauguration hotel the day after because I knew we had a winning combination.
BUT......
Let's just say Joe Biden was a doofus. Wouldn't that look bad on the part of Obama to replace him, Obama showing weakness which could possible swing voters over to Romney/Ryan. The one biggest strength of Barack Obama is his confident & calmness when the pressure is on. Barack Obama is one cool cat. So for him to even consider replacing Obama would be him stepping out of his confident/calmess/one cool cat persona and it would show weakness in his character.
