In reply to the discussion: Should President Obama pick a new VP? [View all]shanen
(349 posts)I think that comment is the one that is most typical of neo-GOP thinking, and was the basis of Dubya's campaign in 2004. It did NOT work out well for America OR for the OLD Republican Party. I've seen a lot of comments within this thread that have surprised me, but what I haven't seen is any reasoned defense of Joe Biden. The main defense seems to be "Keeping his VP was good enough for Dubya!"
I like Joe Biden. I think he's a nice guy, but there are lots of nicer guys available. My main concern is still his age, but I have others, but it's hard to select #2 because all of the other concerns are pretty far back. Biden has a kind of soft image, and just doesn't seem to be the same kind of leader President Obama is. Biden has a reputation of being a gaffe-prone speaker. He's too focused on international topics (though of course that charge has been used against Obama, too).
With regards to one of the ad hominem angles, no, I am not 19 years old. That sort of thing just proves you don't want to face the real issue.
I do hope that this thread indicates Biden can generate more enthusiasm than I thought he could--but I doubt it. This is a highly partisan audience, and in this case I think the consensus is quite poorly justified...
