In reply to the discussion: Why Most Black Voters Still Aren't Feeling Sanders [View all]Jack Rabbit
(45,984 posts)1. Agreed. Most of what you are complaining comes from Bernie's supporters, not Bernie himself. I agree most with the "Father knows best" attitude needs to go. I'll even agree that this college educated white boy needs to work on that.
2. It might help him, but then he wouldn't be Bernie. Besides, I like the idea of breaking up banks. Banks aren't too big to fail; they're just too big for their britches. I think he has more than economic solutions in mind. Take a look at his idea to automatically register voters. That is his response to something to is explicitly racist (viz., voter ID laws). I think everybody knows that voter ID has nothing to do with stopping illegal immigrants from voting, something very few of them even attempt. He wants higher voter turnout among all groups, of course, but I think it would be especially be helpful to our most marginalized minorities. Is that wrong?
3. Agreed. I do believe that Bernie has an opportunity among young blacks to appeal to them by discussing his remedies for what alienates them from the political system. That wouldn't be just one thing and would be a tall order, but I think President Sanders would be up to it.
