In reply to the discussion: HuffPost: Bernie Sanders Will Not be the Democratic Nominee, No Matter What Happens in the Primaries [View all]highprincipleswork
(3,111 posts)We've all seen the polls reflecting the true beliefs of Americans, and as Elizabeth Warren says, these views are Progressive, not at all rightward leaning.
The trouble is, everyone has been subjected to decades of propaganda by the Raygun-influenced Republican Party, talk radio, and every other hack (including Grover Norquist who had his brilliant idea about taxes when he was just thirteen). And then some people, most people, even people here believe this crap.
Now, I'm not saying the Democratic Party can't be just as corrupt and head in the sand and lazy and unintelligent as the Republican Party. I think it's shown that it can, time and time again. I think it shows its ineffectiveness and lack of courage and values every time it caves into a ridiculous Republican demand or philosophy when it negotiates.
But the reason Bernie has done as well as he has, despite the lack of Democratic Party and mass media support is because he actually is telling some very big truths. These are truths that resonate with people and that many people know we need to act upon if we are to survive in some decent fashion.
I believe he could be shut out of the nomination, and what would you have then? You will have a continue diminution of the Democratic Party and what it used to stand for and what created the most robust economy and thriving middle class the world has ever seen. And that's the writers idea of victory? And that's the writer's opportunity to gloat?
Good luck with that.
