most people don't pay close attention to the news.

but the thing with the comey news was that the media made it THE TOP story for days close to the election. to many people they don't pay attention to details they just see "top news" "fbi" etc. so it must be something serious.

add in the normalization and acceptance of Trump and his vileness by the media .
