My mother was born in Montgomery to two ultra-conservative Southern baptists, but grew up to be a staunch Kennedy liberal. (She even marched in JFK's inaugural parade.) She passed her progressivism to her three kids.
(It's kind of weird, but my grandmother, despite being so right-wing, was actually pro-choice. Strange bedfellows and all that...)
