He traveled three-quarters of a mile, in a 4 feet wide pipe containing 2 feet of liquid. After identifying the most likely area to search, albeit over a mile long, they dropped in floating cameras as well as ones that 'crawl' along the bottom of the pipes underwater. One of the cameras spotted hand prints on the wall of a pipe, which led them to the right maintenance hatch to open.
I imagine that he's receiving every antibiotic known to medicine right now.
