AND from minorities who are discovering him for the first time.

You can understand why the effort was made to try to discredit him BEFORE minorities got to know who he was. But they didn't count on people LOOKING FOR THEMSELVES.

Comments I've seen from AAs, eg, go like this after checking him out because of the wreckage at NRN, 'hey, why are they going after THIS guy, he's been an ally for decades'?
