Finally, he is not a johnny-come-lately to these concerns. The national media focused two negatives in regards to this relationship with AA South Bend community - not bothering to put them in context. Example: He heard a *lot* from the AA community before his first run for mayor about taking down abandoned houses. He listened and started the 1000 homes in 1000 days program - most homes were demolished, some were fixed up. Some criticized him for not providing enough support to fix up homes. Now SB invests $1,000,000 annually to fix up homes in neighborhoods in need.
