First, in our race to increase revenue our candidates are suggesting taxing everything - I fear that this trend is virtually writing the commercials for the other side.
Second, this idea is not only unworkable - it is unfair. The companies mentioned ARE paying taxes when they sell something (advertising, usage data, device data, any data).
Third, your specific data is of little to no value, it only becomes valuable when aggregated with other users. The block of data has value.
There is a saying in the software world "If you're not paying then you are the product"
Users get value from Gmail, Waze, and Facebook, and pay nothing - the companies process all of that data and sell it (a taxable event), to do that they need to buy buildings, furniture, and computers (all taxable events), then they need smart people who get paychecks to do the work (taxable events).
Do we want to risk killing that golden goose?
