The hurdle for approving Constitutional amendments is VERY high, especially ending the Electoral College when that involves small states giving up their advantage. However, there is another way to accomplish the same thing if enough states adopt the plan to award all their EC votes to the winner of the popular vote (doesn't take effect until states comprising a majority of EC votes sign onto the plan).
