(15,205 posts)But, in terms of popular sentiment reaching the tipping point, and having it on the party platform, Bernie had more to do with that. But your point is well taken. Bernie merely started talking about it as a challenge to Hillary Clinton in 2016. We won't fight the primary again by any means, but I believe we may have reached a tipping point.
I don't know if you've read that book (Tipping Point) by Malcolm Gladwell, but he talks about how a meme, or thought, or desire, or way to do stuff starts small, with just a few people, then pretty soon everyone is thinking that way, or doing that way. The book explores that particular point in time when a meme goes mainstream. Sort of like today's concept of going viral.
That global warming is an existential crisis for our species, for instance, used to hold steady at about 7%. Now it is at 20% give or take. This means popular pressure is getting strong enough to negate the dark money and pseudo science being put out by big oil. Rachel just wrote a book about that, which I have not read as yet.
And healthcare is the same way. Phrased correctly, the idea of a single payer has over 50% support. Of course, the media and pollsters have made a science out of phrasing the question wrong so we can all split hairs, but the writing is on the wall. Popular pressure is building.
You know, George, if I were in academia, which I'm not, this 'tipping point' concept would be a pretty neat thing to do a dissertation on.
As to Conyers, he was a champion for civil rights and social justice as well as economic justice. The one scandal aside, he did a lot of good.

primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
