Someone on this thread mistakenly thinks I must be 'rich' to give the type of advice I would have, but I have rarely in my life had much more than enough, and sometimes not enough, for what that's worth.

But I'm white. There were a couple times when I was a teen and got stopped that cops thought about pulling their sticks on me, roughing me up, but that never happened. That was probably because way back when, during the tail end days of the 'generation gap,' I wore my hair long and dressed in a rather scruffy way.

I do remember once I got stopped in a blue collar neighborhood and I attempted to argue with a cop and he put his hand on his stick. I got the message and became very polite and docile - as my own father had taught me to be when dealing with cops.

What you said about white privilege is the truth, because my life would have likely been ruined by a criminal record had I not been white suburban.
