He will probably succeed Ben Ray Lujan as assistant to the speaker in 2021.

Actually, Lujan probably would have been the next speaker had he not decided to run for senate this year. Of course, Xavier Becerra probably would have been in line to become speaker had he not accepted an offer to become attorney general of California.
