Democratic Primaries
In reply to the discussion: What Bernie's spokesperson thinks about John Lewis [View all]Politicub
(12,162 posts)I am not defending the tweet; I read it yesterday and it was horrible and disgusting.
I am so sad about Lewis and his announcement. Meeting him in 2008 during the primaries then was one of the highlights of my life. I don't live in his district, but I am in the Atlanta metro area so I see news about him often. His presence is felt here.
Here's why I have a problem with the OP: it was posted as a way to use something terrible -- the pancreatic cancer diagnosis -- to draw attention to campaign staff. The post wasn't really about Lewis; it was about the Sanders campaign. It was the first post I came across on DU after seeing the news in the MSM that didn't start with expressing sympathy for Lewis. That's why it bothered me. I don't know the motivations of the new member who posted it, and I don't need to.
The OP wasn't about Lewis as much as it was about using him as an object to further an agenda. And I hate seeing that done by any campaign because it diminishes the gravity of the situation.
I respect you tremendously, Cha, and I support Biden as well as Warren. This reply is just me being transparent and honest about how I feel.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
