(314 posts)It makes people cynical and undermines the sense that we have American ideals--including legitimate limits on power, and especially of limits on executive power.
When this cynicism is compounded by calls to act by fiat on day one and ruling by executive order instead of by moving legislation through Congress, the de-legitimization of the logic of our republic's system of checks and balances is further eroded.
It would compound the damage done by Donald J Trump, in my estimation.
We don't fix a broken system by breaking it more.
No friends, we need to fix it.
Populism is not the answer. Embracing the traditional liberalism of our party--and restoring limits on executive power--is the answer to populist Trumpism and to corruption.
Let's not embrace false solutions.
