I always love this talking point for a couple reasons:
1. It conflates "the African American community"--a strange construct, especially insofar as we don't talk about "the white community"--is homogeneous. In fact, black folks have heterogeneous opinions about issues of policing and lots of other things.
2. The bill would have passed without a single vote from a single African American legislator....because there weren't, and aren't yet, enough of them in congress.
Also, I don't need to ask the African American legislators who are supporting Bloomberg why they're supporting them because as far as I know, none of them have said that he just did it too aggressively. They have said it was bad policy and unconstitutional and that he's apologized for it. NOT that he did it too aggressively.
If I were to vote in a presidential primary today, I would vote for:
