Democratic Primaries
In reply to the discussion: Amy! You go, Girl! [View all]SunSeeker
(51,295 posts)48. No, Obama misspoke. He did not "forget" there are 50 states. Amy forgot.
Her forgetting Obrador's name (if she ever knew it) is not similar to Obama accidentally saying "57" instead of "50." She is on the Senate Subcommittee on Border Security and Immigration and she doesn't have Obrador's name on the tip of her tongue? That suggests she isn't paying attention, implying she does not care. Pete was right to press her. And it showed she really did not know Obrador's name, it was not a question of forgetting or misspeaking. Misspeaking would be if she said something like that his name was Labrador instead of Obrador.
As CNN pointed out, in naming Bloomberg and her the two debate losers of tonight:
Klobuchar had to know she was going to get a question about why she couldn't remember the name of the Mexican President, but she still had to look down at her notes to get the name right! And her follow-up bit of trivia about the number of people in the Israeli parliament fell totally flat too.

What was amazing is she still had to check her notes before saying Obrador's name, and even then, she mangled its pronunciation. It was cringy.
Making matters worse for her, her voice quivers when she speaks. I don't know if it's nervousness or what, but her voice tends to sound like she's on the verge of crying. She just does not come off as poised and confident. Warren does not have that problem, and Warren won the debate tonight.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

YES. That was the moment that I thought was worst for her, because nothing would play better...

LOL, temperament is not gender dictated, and as a woman myself, I find that sexist charge to what is

bollocks, you are playing semantic games, plus injecting your own sexism by applying 'smarmy'

might be a cultural thing, I am US-born but London raised, it is most often applied to women
