(20,709 posts)The young people thing I think has a lot of roots. First, young people tend to be more idealistic. Also, this particular generation of young people came of age during a time when the "miracle of capitalism" hasn't been all that miraculous. And they missed the cold war, so the whole "communism" thing seems dumb to them. And they're right about that, what Bernie proposes is commonplace in Western Europe and other parts of the world.
You're right that electing Bernie wouldn't turn America into a full-fledged socialist country. In fact, even if Bernie were able to enact every single thing on his platform, we still wouldn't be a "full-fledged socialist" country. We'd just become a "normal" country by international standards with decent labor protections, social benefits, and universal healthcare.
