Democratic Primaries

(86 posts)In any primary campaign, candidates will necessarily make a case to voters by distinguishing themselves from the rest of the field. Although I have become a strong and enthusiastic supporter of Elizabeth Warren, pragmatism becomes the only winning strategy when we move into the general election. At the convention, a candidate will be nominated, somehow. Let's ignore the how. If the nomination comes down to Sanders or Biden then the most important person here will be the loser. If Sanders loses, his moment of leadership will be to make it clear to his supporters that it is vital for them to continue the fight by backing Biden and fighting hard for his election. Similarly, if Biden loses, he must make it absolutely clear that Sanders, democratic socialist, is our candidate, and, again, we need everyone to get on board.
I am far closer in political philosophy to Sanders than Biden but this distance shrinks to nothing compared to the difference between either of these two (or our other candidates) and the menace to the world who sits in the White House now.
I can only add that sowing seeds of internecine resentment within the Democratic base benefits Russia and can only serve to advance the world towards another four years of unimaginable malice.
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided
