(42,481 posts)where most of the population is in the middle. This is where rule of law, normalcy, common sense, thrives. When you need to fight wars, these are the troops. Traditionally. The left doesn't like to fight, and you know few from the right will be there.
So we may be comparing apples and oranges a bit. Most liberal or progressive ideas that become enacted are in a range in the middle. The Progressive Era, 1900-1920s had many leftist ideas. Most were coopted by right of center civic leaders and corporations to defuse the Red Scare, and some became reality in modified form, such as corporations that cared for their employees with sick pay or unemployment insurance, nurses available on site, child care in a few places. Such policies were tested out many in NY state a decade or more prior to the New Deal.
