1. Latinas can be black

It’s an ethnicity not a race. Amara La Negra, Gina Torres and Celia Cruz (from the grave) say hi. As does my late Afro-Cuban grandmother. If they mean why does it need to be an African-American woman, they need to say so. They don’t because they like having this idea that all Latines look somewhere between JLo and the woman from Modern Love.

To my knowledge, there are no prominent Afro-Latines in politics. If there are, I’m sure they’ll be on the shortlist.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
