It was meant to be competitive markets and not captive markets. We do not have capitalism. We have corporatism and socialism for the rich. Most of the time we only have one choice. Although most utilities share publicly financed backbones, most people still only get the choice of only one provider. Those that do get the choice of more than one provider find that the prices are fixed between the companies and it doesn't matter which they choose. There are so few competitors left that they have decided there is no need to compete for business any more and they will just share the wealth and all raise prices together to whatever the market will bear before people will complain to the government for intervention or the media investigates and exposes their corruption. Soon the media will stop investigating as it seem more and more media outlets are being purchased and controlled by these corporate entities. The government also will be of no help to the people as corporate money, through lobbying is silencing the pleas of the people for fairness. This could be the last election we have for a chance to reverse this trend.
